Miceli Vela Safety Management Policy and System

Who is accountable and responsible for safety

According to its legal duties, Miceli Vela srl provides a safe working environment, safe work equipment, and safe methods of work in line with Italian regulation and RYA policy, including feedback and communication lines which grant the identification of safety hazards and allow an effective reporting system at each level.

For such purpose, notices are given to our staff, on roles and responsibilities in a circular flow of communication which includes the following bodies:

  1. Miceli Vela RYA RTC Principal – Setting Policies and Goals
  2. Miceli Vela Board – Making decisions
  3. Training and familiarization for instructors and other members of the staff

Roles and Responsibilities

 Liability at Miceli Vela RYA RTC

All the instructional staff working at Miceli Vela must hold a valid RYA certificate of competence and instructors endorsement.

Miceli Vela ensures the safety of its employees, customers and anyone else involved in our activities.

 Responsibilities

Shorebased facilities and vessels used for practical courses are covered by Miceli Vela’s Insurance policies, which apply to RYA courses. 

According to the Italian rules, Miceli Vela srl has ultimate responsibility for health and safety of its staff and customers during the RYA RTC shore based and practical activities.

According to the RYA rules, the principal of the RTC Isabella MARINUCCI has ultimate responsibility for health and safety of the staff and customers during the RYA RTC shore based and practical activities.

Mr. Pier Paolo TOMASSI is nominated deputy Principal.

When delivering ashore corses, instructors will be given the responsibility of taking care of their own health and safety and of candidates’ health and safety during the shore based classes.

Instructors on board vessels will hold a practical course starting from Porto Santo Stefano and will be given the responsibility of taking care of their own health and safety and of the candidates’ health and safety during the practical activities and while on own tuition boats.

All staff and instructors have a responsibility to cooperate with supervisors and managers to achieve a safe teaching environment.

Safety induction

Prior to the commencement of any contract, Miceli Vela staff will be familiarized with the company’s procedures and methods of work. An Induction briefing is to be delivered at least on the following: 

  1. Risk assessment and safety briefing
  2. Repairs and defect form
  3. Check list prior to sail at sea
  4. Debriefing form
  5. End courses checklist
  6. Italian incident’s report and the EN translation
  7. MAIB Reporting
